Overly receives Baptist Children's Home scholarship at SBU

Southwest Baptist University senior Briana Overly is the first recipient of a $5,000 scholarship representing a partnership among three Missouri Baptist entities.

Candidates announced for Mr. and Miss Southwest

Southwest Baptist University continues the tradition of honoring one male and one female student each year at the annual Mr. and Miss Southwest Pageant, which takes place this year at 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, in Pike Auditorium on the SBU campus.

SBU to award honorary doctorates to Clark, Mathes

Wayne Clark of Bolivar and Mark Mathes of Springfield will receive honorary doctorates from Southwest Baptist University during the annual Founders' Day chapel service at 10 a.m. Monday, March 1, in Pike Auditorium. SBU awards honorary doctorates to recognize outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to society and to Kingdom work.

Making a national impact

When he was in high school, Evan Kirksey was shy - "kind of nerdy and kind of introverted," he says. To help him overcome his shyness, Evan's father, Daren '87, '89, urged him to join speech and debate at Willard High School.

A life of service, mission and inspiration

In preparation for the mission field, Janice Sartin '64 earned her associate of arts degree from Southwest Baptist College, a BS in elementary education from then-Southwest Missouri State University, a master's in social work from Tulane University and a master's in religious education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. But, God had other plans for "Ms. Janice."

Johnson assumes Interim President role at SBU

Southwest Baptist University's Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Brad Johnson as interim president during a Feb. 16 board meeting as the board begins its search for the University's 26th president. Johnson has served as acting president since Nov. 21.

SBU DPT graduate commissioned as U.S. Navy officer

Southwest Baptist University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program hosted a ceremony Jan. 15 to finalize a 2019 DPT graduate's commission as a military officer.

SBU Trustees reconsider tenure and promotion, appoint Johnson as Interim President

The Board of Trustees of Southwest Baptist University met Tuesday, Feb. 16, in a called meeting to reconsider matters related to promotion and tenure for eligible faculty members and to discuss the presidential search.
