Features

Through the Wellness Center at Southwest Baptist University, you can stay active during your college years and beyond. Features include:

  • Climbing wall for rock climbing and bouldering
  • Indoor running/walking track
  • Three courts for playing basketball, volleyball and other games
  • Indoor swimming pool (natatorium)
  • Fitness room equipped with cardio and weight equipment
  • Fitness classes in the Aerobics Room
  • Four racquetball courts available for racquetball, handball and wallyball
  • Intramural sports for students, faculty, staff, and alumni

Membership

Wellness Center memberships are provided for undergraduate students and employees and are available to graduate students, community members, and alumni according to the information provided below.

Students

Membership is automatic for undergraduate students, paid through the Student Activity Fee assessed at the beginning of each school term.

Faculty and Staff

Membership is free to faculty and staff, including their dependents, as an employee benefit. Dependents will be required to obtain an SBU ID card at a cost of $7.50.

Alumni

If you stay in the Bolivar area after graduating, you can receive a reduced-rate membership to the Wellness Center.

Community Members

Anyone living in the Bolivar area can apply for membership in the Wellness Center, according to the published rate schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Download a Wellness Center membership application or acquire one from the Director's office. Complete the required information and determine membership status. Completed forms must be submitted to the Director's office in-person. Please do not mail.
  2. Make initial membership payment in the Sells Administrative Center. A $7.50 identification card fee will be required for non-SBU students, non-SBU employees, and faculty/staff dependents. ID card fee is in addition to Wellness Center membership fee and is collected with membership payment. (Replacement ID fee: $20)
  3. Acquire a photo identification card at the Physical Plant. The request for photo must be accompanied by a membership receipt payment and sufficient identification.

Students, Faculty and Staff

Admission to the Wellness Center is based on a valid SBU identification card. Student memberships are paid through student activity fees assessed at the beginning of each school term - fall, Winterfest, spring and summer. Faculty/Staff/SBU retiree memberships are attributable to the SBU benefits package.

Adult Memberships

Memberships are available to adults by making proper application, agreeing to the Wellness Center policies and procedures, and paying membership fees. SBU graduates, seniors over 65, and student spouses are subcategories of the adult membership and subject to the same requirements. Family memberships are available as additions to adult memberships. Family memberships include spouses and children living in the home. Children must be under 18 years of age or current high school students.

The Daily Guest Pass fee is $5. Fees apply to the entire day of issue and re-entry during operating hours is gained by presenting the Guest Pass and sufficient identification. Guest passes are available at the Fitness Desk and IM Gym Desk.

Wellness Center members may invite up to two guests per day. Members wishing to host more than two guests must request approval through the Director's office.

Guests may participate in fitness classes and use fitness center equipment, but may not take part in ongoing programming (i.e. intramurals.). Guests may check out equipment or reserve racquetball courts.

Guests violating any Wellness Center rules will forfeit privileges immediately. The guest will be held accountable for any damages to property or equipment.

Fitness Classes

Wellness Center members and guests can benefit from the fitness classes offered each semester. Members can purchase classes for $1 each and guest are always welcome for $5 per class. Examples of fitness classes include:

  • Aqua aerobics
  • Body sculpting
  • Cardio step and step kickboxing
  • Killer Abs
  • Pilates
  • Taekwondo
  • Zumba

Facility Rental

Wellness Center facilities, including natatorium (swimming pool) and intramural gym, are available for group events.
