SBU hosts Spring 2022 Chapel services

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University welcomes students, employees and the community to Spring semester Chapel services, which take place weekly at 10 a.m. in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus through Wednesday, May 11.

Each Chapel service is scheduled to be broadcast live through SBU’s Facebook page.

“Chapel is an integral part of spiritual life at Southwest Baptist University,” said Rick Melson, Ph.D., SBU president. “We are committed to providing opportunities for students to deepen their faith and equip them as servant leaders to make an impact in the world for Christ." 

The remaining Spring Chapel schedule:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 9: Center for Global Connections Panel. CGC teams and leadership will be promoting spring and summer projects for 2022.
  • Monday, Feb. 14: SBU student-led Chapel. Tyler Eads, senior accounting major at SBU, is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 16: Racial Reconciliation Task Force panel led by Jon Nelson, pastor of Soma Community Church, and President of the Missouri Baptist Convention. 
  • Monday, Feb. 21: Dr. Denny Burk, president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 23: Fred Broome, lead pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Republic, Mo., and SBU Trustee, will be the featured speaker. 
  • Monday, Feb. 28: Inauguration Week – Matt Papa, veteran songwriter, Christian musician and two-time Dove Award nominated artist, will lead praise and worship.
  • Wednesday, March 2: Inauguration Week – Dr. Rick Melson will be inaugurated as the 26th president of Southwest Baptist University.
  • Monday, March 7: Jeremy Muniz, senior pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, March 9 through Wednesday, March 16: (Global Connections Week) On March 9, learn about ministry projects through SBU’s Center for Global Connections. The CGC will introduce Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 mission projects. On Thursday, March 10, Global Fest will have displays, ethnic food and clothing representing CGC ministry projects, and will be held from 1-7 p.m. in the Goodson Student Union.
  • Monday, March 14: (Global Connections Week) Andy Pettigrew, with the International Missions Board-Student Mobilization, will be the featured speaker. The CGC also is partnering with the SBU Integration of Faith and Learning group to host a worship event from 7-8 p.m. with Pettigrew to speak afterward. On Tuesday, March 15, the Voice of the Martyrs’ movie “Sabina” will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Union. Scott Bloom, representative of the Voice of the Martyrs, will give a presentation on Christian persecution at 8:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A with students at 9 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 16: (Global Connections Week) Commissioning of the Spring mission teams. 
  • Monday, March 28: Michael Byrd, Sr., pastor of Faith Community Church in St. Louis, will help lead praise and worship.
  • Wednesday, March 30: Dr. John Murphy, associate professor of biology at SBU, is the featured speaker.
  • Monday, April 4: Ash Napier, a local singer/songwriter, will lead praise and worship.
  • Wednesday, April 6: Dr. David Quackenbos, assistant professor of Christian Ministry at SBU, is the featured speaker.
  • Monday, April 11: David Brown, lead pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon, Mo., and SBU Board of Trustees vice chairman, is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, April 13: Josh Trimble, executive vice president and chief of Foundation Management at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital and SBU Trustee, is the featured speaker.
  • Monday, April 18: Kurt Earl, founder of Culture Coordinator, is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, April 20: Mike Pitts, director of athletics at SBU, is the featured speaker.
  • Monday, April 25: Dr. Dan DeWitt, director of the Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity, Associate Professor of Applied Theology and Apologetics at Cedarville (Ohio) University, is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, April 27: Kempton Turner, pastor of City of Joy Fellowship in East St. Louis, Ill., is the featured speaker.
  • Monday, May 2: Chris Duffey, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Sedalia, Mo., is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, May 4: Daniel Carr, lead pastor of Canaan Baptist Church in St. Louis, is the featured speaker.
  • Monday, May 9: Michael Byrd, Sr., pastor of Faith Community Church in St. Louis, is the featured speaker.
  • Wednesday, May 11: Students will be commissioned for summer global projects through the Center for Global Connections at this service featuring worship with Zack Atchley and Nate Jones.
