SBU esports to host free interactive expo April 29

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Southwest Baptist University’s nationally ranked varsity esports team is hosting the free SBUniv Esports Expo on Saturday, April 29, on the Bolivar campus.

Esports has made it to the collegiate level and is growing in popularity. The SBU League of Legends Bearcats, who are currently ranked in the top 64 in the country in Collegiate StarLeague Division II, are on the frontlines of this electronic game wave, and would like to invite gamers and spectators of all ages and skill levels to the expo. The expo is a single-day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to the public.

Dr. Steven Lesh, SBU Physical Therapy department chair

Chris Allison, SBU head esports coach

Michael Brooks, National Association of Collegiate eSports

 

Events at the expo will include:

High school League of Legends tournament

Meet and Greet with speakers

Campus scavenger hunt

Gaming trivia and family game center

4v4 Rocket League

3v3 Twisted Treeline

 

“I feel extremely blessed that Twitch and Counter Logic Gaming have given so much support to our students and made this expo possible,” Allison said. “I am excited about how this expo will bring together gamers of all ages and offer both entertainment and education.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to watch live tournaments, interact with sponsors and speak with the current SBU varsity esports team.
