SBU hosts more than 500 youth at math contests

About 550 number-crunching students from Missouri and Kansas elementary and middle schools gathered at Southwest Baptist University on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30 for math contests hosted by the SBU Department of Mathematics. The 17th annual competition provided a positive educational experience and encouraged the enjoyment and study of mathematics.

SBU professor authors new book

Dr. Kelly Malone, associate professor of intercultural studies at Southwest Baptist University, has authored "City Church: Working Together to Transform Cities," a new book about the church, outreach and evangelism in cities. Published by Urban Loft Publishers, "City Church" went on sale at Amazon on Friday, Jan. 29, with a Kindle edition to follow in the near future.

SBU to host annual Church Music Workshop Feb. 4-6

Southwest Baptist University's annual Church Music Workshop will be held Thursday, Feb. 4 through Saturday, Feb. 6. The event features speaker sessions, workshops, master classes and performances to help attendees learn more about church music and enhance their musical performance skills.

Tennison earns award for dissertation

Dr. Rachel Tennison, Bolivar Primary School assistant principal, received the Outstanding Research Award for Cognitive Coaching from Thinking Collaborative, an organization working to maximize individual and organizational thinking and professional collaboration. She successfully presented her dissertation December 2015 to earn her Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership from Southwest Baptist University.

SBU debuts new art show, will host artist reception

Southwest Baptist University's fifth exhibition of the 2015-2016 academic year features artwork by local printmakers Deby Gilley and Marian Stahl Chamberlain. Entitled "People, Time, and Place," the show runs through Wednesday, Feb. 17.

SBU to present faculty, guest artist chamber recital

The Southwest Baptist University Music Department will present an evening of chamber music at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Meyer Recital Hall in the Casebolt Music Center.

SBU announces spring semester chapel schedule

Southwest Baptist University welcomes students, staff and the community to spring semester Chapel and Equip services, which take place weekly at 10 a.m. on campus in Pike Auditorium through May 4. Chapel services, which occur on Mondays, feature corporate worship and encouragement, and Equip services, which occur on Wednesdays, focus on teaching and equipping.

Grabowski reelected chair of ASIS International chapter

Southwest Baptist University Director of Safety and Security Mark Grabowski has been elected the 2016 chair of ASIS of the Ozarks, the regional chapter of ASIS International, the leading organization for security professionals.
