Dr. Terry Cox Named DPT Program Director

Terry CoxThe SBU Doctor of Physical Therapy program is excited to announce Dr. Terry Cox as its new Division Head and Program Director. 

Dr. Cox, who has taught in the program since 2006 and served as its interim director since 2024, will begin his new role effective May 1. His appointment coincides with the relocation of the DPT program to Springfield beginning in the Fall 2025 semester. 

“This is an exciting time for SBU's DPT program, as we are blessed with amazing faculty and gifted students,” Dr. Cox said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as its program director as we enter a new season of excellence and growth." 

Dr. Cox is a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, as well as a Fellow with the American Academy Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy. He has been a lecturer for national PT industry meetings and published numerous studies on neurodynamics and pain science. Dr. Cox has also traveled across the country teaching courses on weekend for physical therapists. 

He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Regis University, and previously earned bachelor’s degrees in education and physical therapy from Central Missouri and the University of Missouri – Columbia, respectively. 

Dr. Tracy Manly, SBU’s provost, said the national search for a program director ultimately led back to one of the university’s own leaders.
