A part of Southwest Baptist University’s mission is to “prepare students to be servant leaders in a global society,” and Lissette Plasencia truly represents SBU’s global mission.
Lissette ’15 came to SBU from Lima, Peru, to pursue a degree in international business – and to play basketball.
During her time as a student in the Robert W. Plaster College of Business in SBU’s College of Professional Programs, Lissette participated in an international organization that brings students together through entrepreneurship.
“I traveled to Cincinnati and St. Louis for competitions and experienced networking opportunities that led to an internship with ConAgra Foods, where I was first exposed to the food industry,” said Lissette, who earned her bachelor of science degree in international business and is now pursuing her master’s in business administration through EAE Business School.
After graduation, Lissette worked for Wyndham Hotel in Oklahoma City in their sales department. She moved on to Nestlé where she served in a variety of positions, including as a retail sales representative, analyst and associate account manager. All of these positions prepared her for her current position as an account manager for Nestlé Nutrition, overseeing accounts for Puerto Rico, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Goya Foods.
As a student in the Plaster College of Business, she attended Psalm 15 lectures that emphasized eight character traits that should be hallmarks for all College of Business students and graduates: Integrity, Service, Respect, Charity, Faithfulness, Truthfulness, Humility and Perseverance.
Lissette was not only involved in academic organizations but also was a member of the SBU women’s basketball team. She said the SBU faculty were always willing to work with her, and as a student-athlete, she appreciated their efforts to work with her unique schedule.
“Offering a Christ-Centered education is what makes SBU unique,” Lissette said. “I was provided with a foundation for good ethics that are needed in any job. I also grew in my Christian faith by being around people who had a similar faith.”
