SBU's Tompkins to serve as Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador

Southwest Baptist University’s Dr. Perry Tompkins, dean of science and mathematics and professor of physics, has been appointed to serve as a Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador, the Institute of International Education and Council for International Exchange of Scholars has announced.

Perry Tompkins“I am very honored to have been selected to serve in this new role with the U.S. Fulbright Program,” Tompkins said. “With the appointment as a Fulbright Alumni Ambassador, I see my goal as encouraging my colleagues to apply for their own projects in whichever country they are passionate about.”

According to its release, the Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador Program identifies, trains and utilizes a select group of Fulbright Scholar alumni to serve as representatives for the Fulbright Scholar Program at campus workshops and academic conferences across the U.S. Ambassadors serve two-year terms and present information on their Fulbright experience at multiple outreach events each year.

“My focus during the next two years will be to visit sister liberal arts schools in Missouri and neighboring states to spread the knowledge of the opportunities that this program brings to all of them,” Tompkins said.

Prior to coming to SBU, Tompkins was a Fulbright Scholar to Ecuador where he taught computer-based instrumentation from September 2007 to January 2008 at the University of Cuenca, Cuenca, Ecuador.
