BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Southwest Baptist University-Mountain View campus is offering an Associate of Science degree in Teaching that is currently an option to students interested in an education degree.
The degree is a 64-hour program that can be completed in two years. The associate degree in teaching is designed to prepare students to fill educational support roles, such as a teacher’s aide, paraprofessional or substitute teacher.
“This is a great opportunity for someone to learn if a full teaching degree and certification is for them or not,” said Susan Frazier, associate director of admissions at Mountain View.
The degree includes 10 hours of education-specific courses to provide students with foundations of education.
“This degree will make a person more marketable as school administrators will be more interested in hiring someone with education-specific courses as opposed to someone who just has general courses.”
Students may also return to SBU to finish a bachelor’s degree toward teacher certification while working, with the exception of the student-teaching semester.
