SBU Concert, Bolivar Community choirs to present fall concert

BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Southwest Baptist University Concert Choir and the Bolivar Community Choir will present their annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.

The concert will feature selected spirituals and songs from famous American composer Alice Parker such as “Dere’s No Hidin Place,” “Saints Bound for Heaven” and “Ride on King Jesus.” SBU music faculty member Dr. Robin Smith will be a featured soloist on one of Parker’s pieces, “Sometimes I Feel.”

The choirs will also present Dan Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living,” which is an emotionally moving, multiple movement work scored for orchestra, soloists and chorus.

Members of the Springfield Symphony and SBU instrumental department will combine forces with the choir and soloists to close the evening with a musical offering for the living, and their own struggle with pain and sorrow, and for the dead.

The concert is free and open to the public.

For more information about the concert, contact Dr. Andrew Campbell, associate professor of music, at 417-328-1639 or acampbell@SBUniv.edu.
