SBU alum returns to present lecture on influenza

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Darrell R. Strait Center for the Integration of Science and Christian Faith at Southwest Baptist University will present a lecture at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 3, on the Bolivar campus.

Kara Phipps ’14 will speak on “Influenza: A virus re-assortment is impacted by viral and host factors.”

Phipps, a Dutile Honors Program graduate, earned bachelor of science degrees in biology and chemistry from SBU in 2014. She currently is pursuing a Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics at Emory University where she studies the fundamental features of influenza, a virus biology with implications for viral evolution. 

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Room 101 of the Wheeler Science Center.
