The Southwest Baptist University Department of Music will present a piano recital featuring Argentinean-born pianist Dr. Marcelo Lian at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in Meyer Recital Hall on the SBU campus. Lian will also present a master class at 10 a.m. that day in the same location. Both events are free and open to the public.
The concert program will feature solo transcriptions of many works by Johann Sebastian Bach and the B-Minor Sonata by Franz Liszt.
Lian has won prizes in several piano competitions such as the Latin American Association of Pianists and Pedagogues Competition, the Franz Liszt Piano Competition, the Beethoven Piano Competition, the Steinway Competition and more. He obtained his doctorate in piano performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Paul Barnes. He is currently on faculty at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Lian has performed in numerous solo recitals, such as at the Teatro Colon during the Martha Argerich Festival in 2002 and a debut in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 1998. Recent performances and master classes include Linfield College, Kansas State University, McPherson College, Nyack College, New England Conservatory and Wayland Baptist University. This summer, he will teach in Argentina and appear there in both solo and chamber music recitals in collaboration with violinist Mason Hangen.
