SBU Enactus places in top 12 at nationals

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Southwest Baptist University Enactus finished in the top 12 in the Enactus U.S. National Exposition held May 20-22 at the Kansas City Convention Center.

“This was a tremendous group of students,” said Dr. Nathan Wright, assistant professor of business administration. “We were blessed to have five returning speakers including two three-year speakers.”

SBU Enactus qualified for nationals after winning a regional championship at the April 9 competition in Chicago. It was the team’s 33rd regional championship out of the past 34 competitions. The team placed in the top eight in the 2017 national competition.

The SBU Enactus officers for the 2017-2018 academic year celebrate a top 12 finish at nationals. SBU Enactus projects included working with small businesses in downtown Bolivar, continuing the Sentrepact entrepreneurship and free-enterprise initiative at Lebanon and Bolivar high schools, assisting Community Outreach Ministries in Bolivar, and launching the Jump Start program on campus to help students start their own businesses.

The presentation team included: Jordan Martin, a sophomore international business major from Blue Springs; Samantha Martin, a junior marketing major from Dardenne Prairie; Stephen Pierce, a junior marketing major from Lee’s Summit; Ashley Bell, a junior computer information science major from Dodgeville, Wis.; Erin Corner, a senior public relations major from Green Bay, Wis.; and Taylor Parrish, a senior management and marketing major from Blue Springs.

The 2018 Enactus officers include: Parrish, president; Adrey Gallaher, a junior management major from Quincy, Ill., vice president of projects; Larissa Duckworth, a junior elementary education major from Eldon, vice president of competition; and Emily Raines, a junior management major from Marshall, vice president of operations.

“I want to congratulate Taylor for his amazing two years as president,” Wright said. “He has been a model of servant leadership for our team.”

Project leaders are: Jordan Martin, who leads Jump Start; Samantha Martin – Sentrepact; Ryan Northcutt, a sophomore management major from St. Charles – Downtown Bolivar; and Stephen Pierce, a junior marketing major from Lee’s Summit – COM. 

“It’s been a pleasure being a part of the SBU Enactus team as president over the past two years,” Parrish said. “This program has enabled me to bring my knowledge gained in the classroom to life while empowering others in the process. I’m incredibly proud of this team and all that we’ve accomplished this year. I look forward to seeing how the SBU Enactus team continues to improve the livelihoods of individuals in the Bolivar community for years to come.”
