SBU Chorale selected to perform at music educators conference

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Chorale of Southwest Baptist University has been selected to perform at the 81st Annual Missouri Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop/Conference on Jan. 23-26, 2019 at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.

“There were nearly 200 applications for performance submitted this year,” said Brian Reeves, president of MMEA. “The number and the quality of applications received are a testament to the high level of music instruction in Missouri.”

The Chorale was one out of three mixed university choirs selected.

“We all know how much exemplary teaching it takes to have high-quality ensembles,” added Chris Sprague, president-elect of the association. “(The Chorale) will now be held up to our members as examples of what they can achieve.”

Under the direction of Dr. James Tarrant, professor of music and director of choral studies, the Chorale is the premiere choral ensemble of the university. The selectively auditioned choir appears at high schools, churches and state meetings, and has traveled on two performance tours to Europe in recent years.
