SBU recognizes academic chairs for 2016-2017 academic year
Angela Brown-Peterson and Dr. Timothy L. Wood were installed as academic chairs at Southwest Baptist University's annual convocation Wednesday, Aug. 24.
"An academic chair is supported by an endowed fund that is permanently invested for a faculty member in a specific academic discipline," SBU President C. Pat Taylor, Ed.D., said. "In higher education, it is an honor to hold an endowed academic chair."
SBU celebrates new school year at formal convocation
Two faculty members and a staff member were honored at Southwest Baptist University's annual convocation Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Convocation marks the formal beginning of the academic year and is a time when campus gathers to focus on SBU's mission and traditions.
"An important tradition at SBU is our commitment to stay focused on our mission, which has remained consistent down through the years... that it has always been a Christ-centered institution," said SBU President C. Pat Taylor, Ed.D. "If each of us will continue the tradition of living out the SBU mission statement in our lives, the 2016-2017 academic year, which is our 139th, will be a great year."
Southwest Baptist University will host the annual Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Local businesses and organizations are invited to have a float in the parade.
Southwest Baptist University welcomes students, staff and the community to fall semester Chapel and Equip services, which take place weekly at 10 a.m. on campus in Pike Auditorium beginning Monday, Aug. 22 through Wednesday, Dec. 7. Chapel services, which occur on Mondays, feature corporate worship and encouragement, and Equip services, which occur on Wednesdays, focus on teaching and equipping.

Southwest Baptist University will host its first visiting artist exhibit for the 2016-2017 academic year when the works of Russell Horton will be featured from Aug. 22 through Sept. 16 at the Driskill Art Gallery on the Bolivar campus.

SBU's Johnson selected to serve on CIAO Commission
Dr. Brad Johnson, vice president for university relations at Southwest Baptist University, has been appointed to serve on the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer Commission of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities.
