Southwest Baptist University is thrilled to announce the expansion of the Bearcats
baseball dugout to include a brand new locker room facility, made possible through
a major donation from an anonymous supporter. The upgraded facility is strategically
designed to enhance both athletic performance and team culture by offering custom
individual lockers, essential storage, access to athletic training space, and a central
location for team devotionals, meetings, and relaxation.
“The alumni and donors who support our teams are amazing,” Director of Athletics, Clark Sheehy said. “Their support comes from a deep belief in the mission of SBU and Bearcat Athletics. The future for Bearcat baseball is really bright! It’s a great day to be a Bearcat!”
The new facility will include 1,600 square feet of climate-controlled space. Rhodes Construction in Bolivar is working with SBU on the project.
“SBU Athletics plays a vital role in our Christ-centered campus community,” added Leon Wirth, Vice President for Advancement and a 1993 alumnus. “Our donors love the impact SBU Athletics has made on generations of alumni, and anticipate that our baseball program will be strengthened and lives will be transformed in this new space. Additionally, this pivotal gift meets a decades-long need that has been a dream for many Baseball alumni. When Bearcat Nation gives back, our collective generosity enables future generations to thrive.”
Head Coach Charles Bradley expressed his gratitude for the transformative gift, emphasizing its impact beyond the field. “We are extremely grateful for such strong support for Southwest Baptist University. This is a special place, and we are dedicated to using this newly expanded and enhanced facility not just for a better athlete experience, but for investing in the lifelong development of these men.”
Construction began in the spring and will be finished in the coming weeks.
