Valentine to serve as SBU's new Director of Discipleship and Campus Pastor

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Stedman Valentine has been named the Director of Discipleship and Campus Pastor at Southwest Baptist University, the school announced Monday, June 13.

Stedman Valentine, Director of Discipleship and Campus Pastor at SBUValentine joins the SBU family after serving in multiple pastoral care roles over the last several years, most recently as the Young Adult & College Director at First Baptist Church-Branson, The Bridge. While at FBC, Valentine helped to set the direction of The Bridge and implemented a leadership team that executed strategic initiatives to disciple young adult and college students. He also had a primary role in teaching, preaching and content creation, heavily influencing the biblical emphases presented to the students.

“Mr. Valentine brings a heart of servant leadership, a deep love for the Savior, and a passion to disciple the next generation of students to love God and love others,” said Dr. Rick Melson, president of SBU and professor of leadership. “I am excited to see how the Lord will use Stedman to advance the Gospel work at SBU as we prepare students to impact the world for Jesus Christ!

“The Director of Discipleship and Campus Pastor will greatly enrich the overall culture of the university, and SBU looks forward to the new and innovative ways that Stedman will continue to prioritize discipleship being woven into the fabric of campus life.”

Prior to FBC-Branson, Valentine served as the Young Adult Team Fellow for Watermark Community Church, The Porch, in Dallas, as well as holding multiple leadership roles for Kanakuk Kamps in Branson as the Link Year Head Basketball Coach and Camper Care Director.

“I am honored and humbled to be joining SBU as the Campus Pastor and Director of Discipleship,” Valentine said. “I love Dr. Melson’s passion for not just smarter students, but a holier people. I love helping people come to know the Lord and grow in their faith wherever the Lord places me, and it will be a privilege to do that amongst a people who are in a very pivotal time in their lives, college. Let's go!”
