Dr. Bob Burton Southwest Baptist University alumnus Bob Burton was honored on October 7 at the Alumni Banquet with a special award in recognition of his exemplary service in Christian ministry.

“There are over 57,000  Southwest Baptist University Alumni serving and leading around the world in every sector of industry, education, government, and ministry—each on a mission to know Christ and make him known,” said SBU President Dr. Rick Melson. “It is an honor  to recognize Dr. Burton for his service to the church, to the Southern Baptist Convention, and to the North American Mission Board tonight with the bestowing of Southwest Baptist University’s Life Service Award.”

In 1955, President John Dowdy suggested to the Southwest Baptist College Board of Trustees that the Life Service Award be annually presented to graduates whose lives have exemplified the values of SBU. The Life Service award is the highest recognition that the University can bestow upon an alumnus or alumna.

“The Lord called me to ministry, and Southwest Baptist became the place God used to give me a foundation of biblical studies and practical ministry,” Burton says. “I have been so blessed with the opportunities to serve the Lord through mission experiences, pastoring, and furthering my education. God has given me a national platform of ministry and many great ministry experiences all over North America.”
