BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University Theatre will present “As it is in Heaven,” directed by guest director Matt Bender, at 7 p.m., Nov. 11-13 in Davis-Newport Theater on the Bolivar campus. This marks the second production of SBU Theatre’s 2021-2022 season.
Written by Arlene Hutton, “As it is in Heaven”' follows nine women from the Pleasant Hill Shaker Community in Kentucky.
“A true testament to the human experience, it showcases the ebb and flow of trust between members of a tight-knit community,” said Kylie Yeast, a junior marketing major who plays Phoebe in the production. “As actors, we had to place so much trust in each other and I think that translates well.”
SBU Theatre’s production is fortunate to welcome theatre artist Matt Bender, who brings an energetic and community-focused concept to the production. His background in movement-based acting is a unique and welcome experience for SBU Theatre students.
“We are always fortunate to get to work with new artists at SBU, and Matt has brought a fresh and much-needed focus to the process,” said Jonathan Wehmeyer, assistant professor of theatre at SBU. “I have never gotten to work with someone so committed and genuine.”
Tickets for the production may be purchased in person at the Box Office (located inside the Jester Learning and Performance Center), online at SBUniv.edu/theatre, or by calling (417) 328-1691. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students, senior citizens and SBU alumni, and $4 for current SBU students.
