Caring faculty, challenging coursework, extracurricular activities, and a supportive
community at Southwest Baptist University provided the framework needed to help Scott
Conover succeed.
“My professors got to know me personally and helped me along the way in my studies,”
said Scott. “They encouraged me to do my best in everything I did and to think about
all possibilities when it came to different lessons.”
Scott’s professors encouraged him to achieve his full potential and pushed him to
achieve academically. As he pursued his degree in Christian ministry with a concentration
in youth ministry, faculty not only motivated him to continue his education at seminary
but also made sure he was prepared.
“SBU challenged me academically, intellectually, and spiritually. I have been a step
ahead of many people at seminary,” Scott said, “and it has helped me learn more about
ministry and theology, and spend time further reflecting on what I believe and why
I believe it.”
Beyond the classroom, SBU provided opportunities to further develop Scott’s abilities
and servant leadership. Completing the Honors Program, getting involved in academic
organizations such as Baptist Association of Christian Educators (BACE), and participating
in multiple missions projects through SBU’s Center for Global Connections, all contributed
to Scott’s experience.
“These opportunities each taught me to give my best effort to whatever I am doing,”
Scott said, “and I was pushed to go farther than I had gone before.”
Scott is applying what he learned at SBU as he furthers his education at seminary
and serves as a student minister at a church in Texas.
“At SBU I learned what it means to be a servant leader and why that is important,”
Scott said. “At SBU, I learned how to better serve Christ and the church.”
