Julie McGlaughlin '15

Julie McGlaughlin, SBU alumWhen Julie McGlaughlin first came to Southwest Baptist University, she felt at home but was unsure of what her goals were for her future.

"I literally had no idea what I wanted to do with my life," Julie said. "The faculty and staff at SBU helped me discover my passions and goals and then showed me how I can turn them into a lifestyle I love."

She eventually discovered graphic design, which she soon learned to couple with her passion for serving others as a graphic designer for SBU's Center for Global Connections, which equips and sends out international service projects.

Since graduating summa cum laude from SBU with a degree in web systems and design, she has continued to use her skills to serve. She is currently in Africa as a part of the Communications Media team for Operation Mobilization Zimbabwe, the purpose of which is to equip and mobilize workers to make disciples of all nations.

McGlaughlin believes that her time at SBU, including as president of SBU's Student Association, helped her shape her future by providing her with an encouraging environment in which to grow academically, socially, professionally and spiritually.

"Faculty and staff believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and taught me how to have stronger confidence in myself and greater faith in the Lord," she said. "I feel like there aren't really words to describe how thankful I am that God has given me the relationships that I have at SBU. This place truly is like family."
