Letterman to raise suicide awareness during Sept. 7 Chapel
The week of Sept. 5-11 is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Week and Southwest Baptist University welcomes Jana Letterman as she shares her story during Chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, in Pike Auditorium.

SBU to host faculty and guest artist chamber recital
The Southwest Baptist University Department of Music will host an evening of chamber music at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Meyer Recital Hall.

Hungerford named NACAC Communications Committee Chair
Charlie Hungerford, director of admissions for the Mercy College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Southwest Baptist University, has been selected Communications Committee Chair for the National Association for College Admission Counseling and will serve a two-year term.

SBU to host Fulbright Alumni Ambassador workshop
Southwest Baptist University will be hosting a Fulbright Alumni Ambassador workshop for teachers, administrators and students who are interested in learning about the Fulbright Scholar Program at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 9, in room 101 of the Wheeler Science Center on the Bolivar campus.
SBU's Tompkins to serve as Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador
Southwest Baptist University's Dr. Perry Tompkins, dean of science and mathematics and professor of physics, has been appointed to serve as a Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador, the Institute of International Education and Council for International Exchange of Scholars has announced.

SBU recognizes academic chairs for 2016-2017 academic year
Angela Brown-Peterson and Dr. Timothy L. Wood were installed as academic chairs at Southwest Baptist University's annual convocation Wednesday, Aug. 24. "An academic chair is supported by an endowed fund that is permanently invested for a faculty member in a specific academic discipline," SBU President C. Pat Taylor, Ed.D., said. "In higher education, it is an honor to hold an endowed academic chair."

SBU celebrates new school year at formal convocation
Two faculty members and a staff member were honored at Southwest Baptist University's annual convocation Wednesday, Aug. 24. Convocation marks the formal beginning of the academic year and is a time when campus gathers to focus on SBU's mission and traditions. "An important tradition at SBU is our commitment to stay focused on our mission, which has remained consistent down through the years... that it has always been a Christ-centered institution," said SBU President C. Pat Taylor, Ed.D. "If each of us will continue the tradition of living out the SBU mission statement in our lives, the 2016-2017 academic year, which is our 139th, will be a great year."

SBU seeking floats for Homecoming parade
Southwest Baptist University will host the annual Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Local businesses and organizations are invited to have a float in the parade.
