“Dr. DeWitt is an outstanding addition to SBU,” said Dr. Rick Melson, president of SBU and professor of leadership. “He brings a passion for students and commitment to modeling for them a winsome Gospel witness. He has a record of accomplishment of equipping students to think through the most pressing issues of the day and respond with clarity and charity.”

DeWitt is the author of multiple books and articles and is a popular conference speaker. He most recently served as a professor of apologetics and theology at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, where he established and led a center for apologetics that hosted weekly gatherings, monthly seminars and annual conferences. Prior to this role, DeWitt was dean of Boyce College at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. DeWitt also previously served as the Lead Pastor for the Campus Church, a campus of Highview Baptist Church in Louisville.

“I am very excited to be joining SBU’s team,” DeWitt said. “I am thrilled about President Melson’s vision for the school. One of my great passions in life is investing in college students and helping them think critically about their faith, why they believe what they believe and how they can effectively share those beliefs with those around them.”

Daniel and his wife April have been married for 21 years and have four children: Isaiah (15), Micah (15), Josiah (11) and Addilynn (9). DeWitt received a bachelor of science degree in Biblical Studies at Lexington Baptist College in Lexington, Ky., both a Master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

“Dr. DeWitt brings a rare combination of creativity and worldview expertise to the academy,” said Dr. Thomas White, president of Cedarville University. “Under the leadership of Dr. Melson, DeWitt’s talents will be used to advance SBU and God’s Kingdom. Cedarville and I rejoice with our friends at the further advancement of Gospel-centered education.”
