Meet #FlatBearcat!
SBU students, alumni, employees, friends and community members are encouraged to show their school spirit by taking Flat Bearcat with them on their many adventures. Post your pictures to social media and make sure to use #FlatBearcat and #SBUniv when sharing your pictures.
Our favorite #FlatBearcat pictures will be re-tweeted and re-posted on the official @FlatBearcat social media channels!

There will be periodic #FlatBearcat photo contests conducted over social media. Follow Flat Bearcat on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out about these contests and to follow Flat Bearcat on his many adventures.
Official #FlatBearcat Rules
The object of the contest is to create and post original photos that showcase Flat Bearcat. Follow Flat Bearcat on social media for picture ideas or come up with your own creative concept. You must post your entries via Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, and use the official #FlatBearcat hashtag. The official Flat Bearcat committee, comprised of SBU faculty and staff members, will select the most compelling entries to determine the contest winners.
By submitting your #FlatBearcat pictures, you are agreeing that SBU may republish your picture on social media or use for other University marketing purposes.
HOW TO ENTER: All entries must be submitted online via Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. Only publicly visible images will be considered valid entries. To enter you must:
- Have a Twitter, Instagram or Facebook account
- Follow @SBUniv and @FlatBearcat on Twitter and/or Instagram; "Like" the SBU and Flat Bearcat page on Facebook
- Post your picture of Flat Bearcat (Pictures submitted through Facebook must be posted to the Flat Bearcat page wall.)
- Include the hashtag #FlatBearcat in your post
CONTENT RESTRICTIONS: In consideration of the SBU mission statement, participants may not include any of the following content in their Flat Bearcat entries: (i) pornography or other sexually-oriented content; (ii) explicit language or content, images of violence or promotion of illegal activities; (iii) content in violation of intellectual property rights or laws; (iv) libelous, defamatory, disparaging or slanderous material; (v) content that reflects negatively on SBU; (vi) tobacco, alcohol or drugs; (vii) dangerous stunts; (viii) real weapons of any kind including, but not limited to, guns, knives, or projectiles; (ix) material that promotes racism, bigotry, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, age or any other basis protected by federal, state, territory, provincial or local law, ordinance, or regulation; (x) audio and/or visual content owned by a third party; (xi) material that is unlawful.
JUDGING: The official Flat Bearcat committee will judge all eligible contest entries to determine the most compelling and creative entries. Judging criteria will include: creativity/originality, quality of photo, relevance to contest theme, and demonstration of SBU school spirit.
PUBLICATION, LICENSE AND RELEASE: By entering the contest and submitting an entry, each participant (a) agrees that his/her entry is an original work and that he/she owns all right, title and interest in the entry as of the date of submission; (b) grants to the contest administration the right to use, license, edit, modify, duplicate and/or create derivative works from his/her entry including, but not limited to, the right to publish, display, broadcast, distribute, reproduce, perform and otherwise use the entry via the Internet or other interactive media without limitation and without payment of any compensation to the participant.
CONTEST ADMINISTRATION: The official Flat Bearcat committee will be responsible for resolving any disputes and rules violations that arise in connection with the contest. All decisions made by the committee shall be final and binding in all respects.
PRIZE CONDITIONS: All prize details shall be determined at the sole discretion of the official Flat Bearcat committee. No cash redemption value.
NOTIFICATION: The chosen contest winners will be notified via Instagram, Twitter, and/or email and will be required to privately provide his/her name, address, and other personal information necessary to receive the prize.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: By participating in the contest, each participant (a) accepts and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules, including all eligibility requirements, and (b) gives his/her express permission to be contacted by the contest sponsors for contest administration purposes.
