SBU to host Founders' Day, award honorary doctorate
Beverly Jane Richardson '60 of West Plains, Mo., will receive an honorary doctorate from Southwest Baptist University during the annual Founders' Day chapel service at 10 a.m. Monday, March 7, in Pike Auditorium.
The Southwest Baptist University Department of Music will present the "Winds and Friends" concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in Pike Auditorium on the SBU campus. The concert features the SBU Wind Symphony conducted by Brian K. Hopwood and the Lebanon High School Wind Ensemble conducted by Aaron Stewart as guest ensemble
The Southwest Baptist University Theatre program continues its 2015-2016 season with "All My Sons" by Arthur Miller. The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 25-27 and March 3-5 in Davis-Newport Theater on the SBU campus.
SBU debuts new art show, will host artist reception
Southwest Baptist University's sixth exhibition of the 2015-2016 academic year features artwork by local photographer Jessica King and Kansas-based painter Matthew Thonen. The exhibition debuts Monday, Feb. 22, and runs until Friday, March 18.
Southwest Baptist University music faculty Regina Bruner, Melinda Smashey-Jones and Carol Harrison will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in Meyer Recital Hall in the Casebolt Music Center.
SBU to host recital, master class with pianist Dr. Marcelo Lian
The Southwest Baptist University Department of Music will present a piano recital featuring Argentinean-born pianist Dr. Marcelo Lian at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in Meyer Recital Hall on the SBU campus. Lian will also present a master class at 10 a.m. that day in the same location. Both events are free and open to the public.
About 550 number-crunching students from Missouri and Kansas elementary and middle schools gathered at Southwest Baptist University on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30 for math contests hosted by the SBU Department of Mathematics. The 17th annual competition provided a positive educational experience and encouraged the enjoyment and study of mathematics.
Dr. Kelly Malone, associate professor of intercultural studies at Southwest Baptist University, has authored "City Church: Working Together to Transform Cities," a new book about the church, outreach and evangelism in cities. Published by Urban Loft Publishers, "City Church" went on sale at Amazon on Friday, Jan. 29, with a Kindle edition to follow in the near future.
