Add a second degree in Christian studies to your primary major

If you are pursuing a major that is outside of the Division of Christian Ministry but would like to further your Biblical studies or receive additional ministry training, then SBU's unique Christian Studies degree is made for you!

This degree can only be a secondary major and is designed to allow student preparing for another vocation to receive a balanced program of training in theological and ministry studies. The Christian Studies major has great flexibility so you can choose the coursework to meet your needs and interests.

The Christian Studies degree is perfect for someone who wants to have a lifestyle of Christian service while earning a living through another vocation. The program is also a great fit for someone wanting to prepare for bivocational ministry in a local church or parachurch organization.

The SBU Advantage

  • While many schools offer degrees in fields such as business, education and communications, there are few places like SBU where you can receive career preparation in your discipline while also receiving theological and ministry training.
  • Participate in the “4+1” program and earn a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry in one year of full-time study after finishing undergraduate work.
  • Seminaries accept students with a variety of academic backgrounds. This major allows you to study in another discipline while also taking courses that will prepare you for further study in a seminary setting.

Faith Integration

The heart of the Christian Studies degree is the integration of the Christian faith and academic discipline. When you add a Christian Studies major to your academic career as a second major, you will gain knowledge about Biblical studies and Christian service and will be challenged to consider how you can use that knowledge to be a more effective servant leader in your chosen vocation.

As a Christian Studies student, you will be eligible for the Church Related Vocation (CRV) scholarship, which is currently valued at $2,000 per year. To maintain this scholarship, you must be enrolled in a ministry-related degree program, submit the necessary application and references, participate in SBU's in-service training program and complete any other requirements.

Several privately funded scholarships are also available by application to students preparing for service in missions and evangelism.
