Athletic Training Major
Due to the changes in the profession, the CAATE now requires a masters degree in Athletic Training. Our program will NOT be making the transition from a undergraduate level to the graduate (masters degree) level. Southwest Baptist University has elected to voluntarily withdraw and teach out the existing program.
Athletic trainers help educate athletes on how to prevent injuries, and evaluate and assess injuries when they do occur. SBU's athletic training program will prepare you to be a skilled, dedicated, caring and ethical allied health professional in athletic training or another allied health field.
After graduating from SBU's athletic training program, you will be equipped to take the BOC exam to become a certified athletic trainer. You also could choose to take certification exams to become a personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach. Many graduates go on to pursue graduate school in athletic training, physical therapy or other fields.
The Athletic Training degree is offered through SBU's College of Science and Mathematics.
Due to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) transitioning
all accredited programs from the undergraduate to the graduate level, the final admitted
class of students into the professional phase of the program will be the fall of 2018.
The program will continue to receive applications to the program through March 1,
Students entering into the University as freshman for the Fall of 2018 or later will be prepared for CAATE accredited graduate-level athletic training programs by majoring in Sports Medicine.
