2009 Student Steering Committee

Ryan Williams, Class of 2010

Ryan Williams
Director
Hey, Everyone.  We as a Steering Committee cannot wait for you to join our academic community, make some new friends, and help us figure out what it looks like to follow Jesus at SBU.  A little something about myself:  I’d much rather be outside than inside, regardless of weather.  Somehow, though, I find myself inside studying more often.  I cook for therapy, and love to read.  Recently, I took up a favorite pastime of my father – gardening.  I love it, but my tomatoes are looking a little rough at this point.  My hometown is a small one near the Arkansas/Missouri border named West Plains.  Our mascot is the Zizzer.  No one seems to know what that is. If you see me during Welcome Week, don’t be afraid to introduce yourself, I’d love to meet you.  That’s why we do Welcome Week; so people get to know both one another and the school as well.  My final year at SBU will be spent as an RA, so if you’re in Landen Hall we’re going to have a good time.

Brother/Sister Chair
Greetings.  Let me tell you a little somethin’ somethin’: I grew up in the small but mighty town of Edna, Kansas. I am now a junior/senior at SBU studying Christian Ministry and Mathematics. I really love to learn new things and see new places. Some activities I have been enjoying lately are reading, hanging out with friends, and eating chips and salsa. I am the Brother/Sister chair of Welcome Week this year, which means I am in charge of putting together all those returning students who are helping to lead the groups here at Welcome Week. I am doing this because I believe starting right is the best way to end right when it comes to most things in life, including college. I think Welcome Week is vital to not only helping someone get ready for life at SBU, but to help begin this growing process of the person you are, and will become. There is nothing else really like it on campus that devotes lots of time to building relationships between those who are experienced, and those who are new.

Jennifer Bonds, Class of 2010

Business Manager
Hi guys! I’m originally from Bentonville, Arkansas.  I will be a senior this next fall and have loved so many things about college. Here at SBU I am a business major and still undecided what I want to do after college; but I do know that I love flying kites, making pretty crafts, listening to great music, and eating lots of yummy food.  Being a part of the Welcome Week Steering Committee has been such a blessing and we hope that you will truly enjoy your time getting to know the people and things that make SBU such a great place to be.

Lydia Nebel, Class of 2011

Lydia Nebel
Assistant Director
‘Ello! I am Lydia! I am a sophomore working toward Social Work and Counseling.  I speak German, sing in Concert Choir, and lifeguard.  I act as the Steering Committee Assistant Director.   I do this because I love laughing.  I love fun times and sharing them with others.  I want to learn more of what a life of service looks like.  I work on WW to have the chance to do this with YOU!

Kyle Brosseau, Class of 2009

Kyle Brosseau
Secret Servant Chair
Hello, all!  I’m a senior here at SBU, graduating next December. On the Welcome Week Steering Committee I’m the Secret Servant Chair.  Now, what Secret Servants do during Welcome Week is, they do all the behind the scenes work that it takes to keep Welcome Week running; like setting up for all the fun events that go on, or directing you where to go on move-in day.  The reason that I wanted to help with Welcome Week is because I know the huge impact that it has on our new students, and the impact that it has on our campus as a whole.  So I want to lead the Secret Servants in making it flow perfectly.  Welcome Week is by far the biggest event of the year here at SBU, and I’m excited about working to make it the best that it can be.

Brooke Dye, Class of 2009

Social Events Chair
Hey! I am this year’s Social Events Chair. I am a senior and will be graduating in December 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Mathematics.  I love traveling, ice cream, and baking! Blue Springs, Missouri is my hometown.  It is an honor to be a part of Steering Committee, and I am thrilled to get to help welcome each new student to SBU. Being apart of Welcome Week is an incredible opportunity for me to serve new students and help them get accustomed to college life here at SBU!

Prayer Warrior Chair
Hi.  I’m currently a sophomore at SBU and my major is Philosophy and Religion, with minors in Art (read: Ceramics) and Communication.  I’m really excited about the upcoming year for a couple reasons; I will be an RA in Landen, and WW09 is going to be a great time of growth for all those who decide to participate.  I am looking forward in anticipation to WW09 and the many events we have planned for our incoming students, but more than that I am awaiting the chance to meet and grow with so many new friends.

Tricia Coor Class of 2010

Ryan Williams
Publicity Chair
Hey guys! I am a sophomore majoring in communication emphasis in journalism. Since I have lived in Kansas my whole life, yes, I am a KU Jayhawk fan! When I am not doing the whole college thing, I really enjoy baking and making random late-night trips to IHOP. However, nothing has impacted my college experience more than Welcome Week.  Some of my best friends are the ones that I met during my Welcome Week. You should definitely come to Welcome Week and experience its awesomeness for yourself!
