When is Winter Welcome?
Winter Welcome 2012 will begin on Saturday, January 21st. It will run through Sunday, January 22nd and classes will begin on Monday, January 23rd.

Who's in charge?
Winter Welcome is planned by a Steering Committee made up of SBU students and advised by the Director of Student Activities.

What will happen when I arrive?
Everyone is required to check-in at the Felix Goodson Student Union.  People will be able to check in starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 21st, 2012.  During registration, you will receive your meal tickets and schedule  We will let you know where to go from there. 

Residence halls will open at 10 a.m. for you to begin moving in to your rom.  If you do not know your housing assignment or if you need help finding your residence hall, you may stop by the Felix Goodson Student Union for assistance.    

Lunch will be served in the cafeteria (family members must have a meal ticket, new SBU students eat for free) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

What do I need to bring?
Winter Welcome: You will receive a WW Planner, name tag and meal ticket during registration which will be all you need for the weekend.

  • Clothes for hot and cold weather (Midwest weather can be tricky!)
  • Toiletries
  • Bathroom Linens
  • Bedding (sheets, comforter, pillow, pillow case, etc.)
  • Laundry supplies (detergent, dryer sheets, quarters, etc.)
  • Pictures of your friends and family
  • Computer
  • Other essential items

Who can attend?
Any college student who is new to SBU. This includes freshmen and transfer students.

How much does it cost to eat lunch on Move In Day?
Move in Day lunch is a meal option provided for you and your family. Incoming students eat for free and additional tickets (for friends and family) are $6 each.  This meal takes place in the cafeteria and lasts about 2 hours. You and your family may come whenever it is convenient. Please remember to enter the number of family members purchasing a meal on the registration form.
