Why did you choose to teach at SBU? "It is a joy and a pleasure to encourage college students in the faith and challenge them to appropriate their beliefs in the academic realm. The training of the mind is part of the Christian experience, and at SBU I get to walk with students down this path."
What sets SBU apart from other universities? "There are lots of people here who love Jesus; you don't always get that at other universities. Additionally, it's refreshing to work at a university that does not pretend to be "free" from religion in our intellectual pursuits, but instead we encourage our students to engage the world of ideas with a biblical lens."
What advice do you have for prospective students? "Embrace the hard work of reading and begin to practice the principle of deferred gratification. I didn't do this, and I was foolish for it. I find that success in college and in life is about being able to pursue and experience our desires, hopes and dreams with proper perspective. And remember that there is 'a desire which no natural happiness will satisfy' - pursue that." (C.S. Lewis, Weight of Glory)
What is your favorite thing to do in Bolivar/Southwest Missouri? "Hang out with my family."
