Welcome. Whether you are a new student or a returning student, you should register your vehicle, ensure you have an SBU Student ID, and sign up for the SBU Alert System. We also encourage you to explore the links to the left concerning various safety and security information.
All licensed vehicles parked on campus are required to be registered once per academic year with the Department of Safety and Security. There are two permits for students: On Campus (you live in SBU housing) and Commuter (you live off campus). Fines are $30 for general violations & $50 for disabled violations.
Register your vehicle online. If you are unable to electronically register, you may still register your vehicle at the Safety and Security Office or at Welcome Week. Vehicles must be registered before the second week of class to avoid a ticket for not registering.
All new students will need to obtain an SBU Student ID. IDs may be picked up at Welcome Week Registration or at the Safety and Security Office located in the Hammons Building. The ID is free and will allow students access to dorms, the wellness center, some academic buildings, chapel attendance, library, and food services. If you are a current or returning student and have lost your card you may have it replaced 8:00-5:00, Monday-Friday at the Hammons Center. Replacement fee for lost cards is $20. Damaged or broken IDs will be fixed or replaced for free.
All SBU students have the option of enrolling in the SBU Alert program to receive emergency notifications from Safety and Security, Student Life or University Communications. SBU Alert will notify student subscribers via text message and/or email as well as through the SBU website should there be the need for an emergency notification.
