Mission Statement:  

The Courts Redford College of Theology and Ministry endeavors from a Christian perspective to teach students the Bible, our Christian heritage, and spiritual formation, and and to prepare students for professional church vocations.

Vision Statement:

The Courts Redford College of Theology and Ministry accomplishes its mission by:

  1. Providing introductory courses for each SBU student in the Bible and spiritual formation.
  2. Providing courses that will prepare students for seminary or further graduate study.
  3. Providing an introduction to the basic tools of doing the work of a local church.
  4. Mentoring church vocation students to understtand their call better and to live the Christ-centered life.
  5. Giving experience under guidance through its In-Service Training Office to those preparing for church vocations.
  6. Making students aware of the witnessing imperative of the Christian faith around the globe.

The Courts Refdord College of Theology and Ministry is responsible for the academic programs in religion and for the Institute of Evangelism. The College serves the University by offering courses required for graduation and programs of theological training for those who are entering church related vocations and for lay people.

Historical note: Dr. Courts Redford was President of Southwest Baptist College from 1930 to 1943, leading the then Junior College through one of its most uncertain periods. After serving 21 years with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, the last ten years as the chief executive officer, he retired in 1964. After moving back to Bolivar in 1966, Dr. Redford again served Southwest as Interim President for 9 months in 1967.
