Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU?
I continue to enjoy the environment of Southwest Baptist University (SBU). Not only do I appreciate the commitment to academic excellence but also admire the commitment to the Christian worldview. As a faculty member, I feel free to discuss my past and current experiences in treating the whole person, including the spiritual needs of patients. SBU attracts many high quality students with the standard of Christian character. These quality students make teaching at SBU a joy. I am also able to keep my clinical skills current with part-time clinical practice.
Educational and Professional Background
I originally came through PT school at a time when the physical therapists were bachelor trained. As such, I received my entry level degree into PT at the bachelor level from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1984. In 2009, I was awarded board certification as a Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the ABPTS. In August 2010, I completed a transitional doctorate of Physical Therapy from Regis University in Denver, CO. I have over 20 years experience as a clinical instructor and a coordinator of clinical education. This experience helped prepare me for my current position as an Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE). I have also been a private practice owner for over 20 year and this allows me to bring a practical real-world background into my teaching at SBU.
