Missions Opportunities
"Students, Alumni and Faculty are able to practice both their profession and their Christian faith as a part of a medical mission team."
Medical mission trips to foreign countries such as India, El Salvador and Peru are one of the unique opportunities available through the physical therapy program at Southwest Baptist University for students who choose to participate. The mission trips usually take place during the second year of the program. Students along with Alumni and Faculty practice both their new profession and their Christian faith as a part of a medical mission team meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people less fortunate than themselves. The preparation includes discussion of the impact of a different culture and language, which is done several months prior to going.
Students raise the funds to cover all expenses of the mission including supplies. Students have traveled to Chandigarh, India; San Pedro, Venezuela; El Salvador and most recently a group of our students, Alumni and Faculty traveled to Peru (see video on sidebar). They provided services to a large number of individuals of all ages with acute and chronic diseases and injuries resulting in a variety of impairments, functional limitations and disabilities. The program goal is to provide this opportunity to a foreign country on an annual to biennial basis.
