Why did you choose SBU?
The primary reason I chose SBU was because I wanted to be in a Christian environment. Although I went to a public high school and loved it, I wanted to be in a place that gave me an opportunity to flourish rather than get swept away in the tide of secular culture. I also wanted a place that offered a solid, affordable education. SBU has definitely met my expectations!
How does college differ from high school?
College is so much better than high school! Picture only having a few hours of classes everyday and living with the greatest people in the world. There is much more freedom in college than in high school in every area, and that’s what makes it such a blessing and a challenge at the same time. I think the key for me adjusting to college was to learn how to use my time most effectively. If you can do that, you can excel in all areas of school.
Faculty and Staff
I truly love the faculty, staff, and advisors at SBU. I’ve been extremely blessed to have some of my most rewarding relationships be with the people who work at the school- from the President all the way down. Every single department has had a professor who has made a significant impact on my life. The faculty and staff are always willing to make friends with the students and invite them into their homes. They are truly world-class Christian men and women!
Advice
Future students have no need to worry about whether SBU will be a good choice. I certainly had high expectations when I was looking at potential schools, and I have never once regretted my choice of SBU. Find a great group of friends on campus and get involved at school and church. If you manage your time, work hard, and surround yourself with great people, then you will have an incredible college experience!
