Class of 2008

I am involved in making the student body aware of the world that is outside of SBU.  I believe that I’m active in engaging those with a different worldview than mine and using them to expand my views of God’s grace and love. I am outspoken about my beliefs but respectful of others.

I have been a part of SBU’s national championship speech and debate team.  I study communication under Drs. Derryberry, Compton, and Miller.  I’ve had the opportunity to speak on over 50 college campuses.  I’ve spoken in national championship debate rounds and in gravel road high schools.  I like impromptu speaking, extemporaneous speaking, persuasion, and dramatic interpretation.

I’ve been involved in numerous productions and studied under Dr. Sartwell.  I’ve received acting jobs outside of SBU because of a direct result of what I’ve learned at SBU.  I’ve been equipped with the tools necessary to pursue acting beyond college, which will be fun.  I’ve been hired with the troupe “Improv-Abilities,” as an extra in “Watch Out,” an independent film by Steve Balderson, and the independent documentary “Best Day” directed by Denny Dey.

I’m a flight operations specialist in the US Army Reserves.  I joined with the intent to serve my country and the soldiers around me.  The military has equipped me with a drive to succeed and the belief and confidence that I can achieve great things.

I recognize and respect the unique things that each individual mind can bring to education and I wish to learn, to understand how best to relate to and interact with those individuals.  I realize that every person can make a contribution to me being able to live a more Christ-like life in a post-modern world.
