Major: Marketing, Class of 2010

Why did you choose SBU? What had the biggest impact on your decision?
I chose SBU for a number of reasons. The first reason why I chose SBU was because it offered a caring, Christian environment for me to grow in my faith as well as my education. I also chose SBU because it offered the competitive DII sport of cross-country and track. It was incredible to find a team with the same motives and passions that I did. The coaching staff at SBU really values the athlete on the personal level.

How does college differ from high school? What helped you adjust to college life?
The biggest difference from high school to college that I noticed is that everyone at SBU really cares about the education you receive. All the students work together and are really committed to doing well and the teachers work with the students in a positive caring environment. The staff here at SBU really made the adjustment to the school an easy one.

Are there any campus traditions that make SBU unique?
SBU would not be the same without some of its traditions. Every year dorms compete during Homecoming to be crowned the best dorm on campus. The dorms compete in various activities like bed races and spirit chapel.

What do you like best about SBU?
I like that SBU really invests in your future. Everything at SBU is specialized to shape a person into the professional they choose to become. The class work is as close to the real world as you can get, and the course work requires you to interact with groups in a real world setting.

Do you have any advice for future students?
My advice is to take pride in your education. The more you personally have invested in your future the further you will go. Don’t sell yourself short you can do anything you set your mind to with the right education.

What do you think about the faculty, staff, and advisors?
When I think about the faculty, staff and advisors of SBU, I think of the type of people I hope to work with when I graduate from SBU. The staff demonstrates an intense passion for the work that they do. The faculty and advisors really enjoy impacting each student’s life on a daily basis.

What are the students like at SBU?
The students of SBU come from many different backgrounds and all choose SBU for different reasons. However what every SBU student has in common is a passion to become a better person in many aspects of life. The students of SBU are motivated to succeed and are very passionate about what SBU has to offer.

What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after I graduate include getting a master's degree from SBU, running a marathon, and finding a quality job.
