Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to explore. Discovering something that hasn’t been seen for years or finding a place that has been completely forgotten is an amazing feeling. I have spent days wandering down river banks and through fields trying to find a piece of history just waiting to be discovered. Over the years I have found arrowheads left by the Indians, house foundations reminding me of what was, and caves left dark and silent. I am left asking myself how much is still undiscovered hoping I will have a part in finding it one day.
One of my favorite things to do is go on family vacations. Every year we pack up our camper and leave to travel to new places in the early hours of the morning. After what seems like days of traveling we finally arrive at our destination and get settled in. There is always so much to do and never enough time, but we see as much as we can. I think some of the best places we have seen included Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, and the White Sands. Every vacation brings on new adventures, memories, and those funny stories that you still laugh about years after the trip they happened on.
My theory inside my house is that everything has a specific place where it belongs and if it doesn’t I can make one. I am definitely obsessive compulsive when it comes to organization. I can’t stand to have something without a place in which it belongs. I have this goal of maintaining a clean organized house which requires everything being put away where it belongs. I enjoy the feeling I get when I buy a new organization unit, accumulate all the items which I decided will be placed inside it, and organize them inside. It is one more thing that I can cross off my list and one less thing that I have to worry about.
When I was in high school I realize how much I loved art. It all started with classes that gave me the opportunity to paint and draw. During my sophomore year at SBU I enrolled in the Introduction to Fine Arts Class that was offered. It was a general education requirement, but I thought it would be fun to take. It definitely opened my eyes to a whole new world of art. I am fascinated by the artwork I have seen in my text books and I finally have the opportunity to see some of my favorites when I travel to Italy this summer. I can only imagine the emotion I will feel when I stand inside the Sistine Chapel and marvel at Michelangelo’s other famous works.
