The department of accounting provides an academic program that covers the basic and advanced concepts of accounting and the application of these concepts in preparation for a career in public, private or governmental accounting and financial management.

- The Gene Taylor National Free Enterprise Center, home of the College of Business and Computer Science, has a unique accounting lab in which students can gain exceptional preparation for the CPA exam.
- SBU s accounting faculty can provide you with a unique plan to help you earn the 150 college credit hours required to sit for the CPA exam, all within a 4 to 4 1/2 year period. Students may also earn these extra hours through SBU’s MBA program.
- Students have opportunities to be very involved in their education by participating in academic organizations such as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Phi Beta Lambda (PBL). SBU’s teams in these organizations are nationally recognized.
- One hundred percent of accounting faculty have earned the master of business administration and professional certification including the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA). All faculty members have real world experience in their respective teaching areas.
- One hundred percent placement rate for accounting graduates into accounting related positions or graduate school over the last several years.

The department of business administration will provide you with a broad curriculum of study to prepare you for a variety of careers. The academic programs consist of a broad liberal arts component, followed by the business core, and ending with specialization courses in economics, finance, marketing, management, public relations and international business. Practical applications are achieved through business clubs, organizations and internships.

- Because of the strong academics and practical application, studying this major at SBU will give you a competitive advantage to secure positions in a variety of areas in the business world and/or graduate school.

- Over the past four graduating classes, our students tested on the national Major Field Test of basic business principles and scored in the upper 90th percentile. In 2006, our students scored in the 95th percentile.

The department of computer and information sciences at SBU is designed to prepare you for a career in information technology, computer science and/or for graduate/professional study. Both majors of this department reflect current methods and technologies within the software development area of computer and information science.
Computer/information science is a rapidly changing field. In order to keep SBU students familiar with the latest trends and technologies, the course curriculum is often updated to reflect these changes.

- Since the programs began in 1984, this department boasts an approximately 100 percent job placement rate for graduates seeking employment in a computer related field.
- Finished as the top Missouri team from an undergraduate program in the ACM International Programming Contest.
- SBU prides itself as being a teaching institution as opposed to a research institution. Because of this, students have contact mainly with professors as opposed to graduate assistants or teaching assistants.
- SBU was the only Christian college in the nation to have students receive an award at the AITP National Collegiate Competition.
