Endowed Scholarships

The tradition of giving endowed scholarships has been in existence almost as long as SBU itself. Long ago those with a vision of the future of Christian higher education realized the need to give a principal amount that would perpetually create a return of interest designated to assist worthy students. Whether given in loving memory of someone dear, or to honor an individual, the tradition has continued to a current total of more than 300 endowed scholarships. Send us an email if you want to subscribe.

There are two ways to establish a scholarship: with a current gift, or with a planned gift (e.g., from a provision through a will). Furthermore, a combination of these two ways of giving will ensure that the scholarship is properly established during the donor's lifetime, although a greater giving potential may actually occur beyond the lifetime of the donor.

In order to create a new endowed scholarship, a scholarship proposal is prepared for the donor. The donor may wish to determine criteria for awarding the scholarship, providing that those criteria are acceptable to the University. The donor may wish to consider such criteria for the recipient as follows:

YOUR ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

"I am the oldest of four children, the first to attend college. My mother is a teacher, and my father is a small business owner. They are not financially able to contribute much to my education. Scholarships are very important. They enable me to grow as a student and a person. I am majoring in business administration and plan to be a business manager."

"We are enrolled at SBU, and we rely strictly on scholarships and loans. Without the scholarships we have received, we would be unable to attend SBU. We love SBU, and along with our parents, we are very grateful for the private scholarships that make it possible for us to attend here. One of the reasons we chose to attend SBU is because of the Christian education that we are able to obtain and eventually share through our careers."
