SBU Faculty Member Top Ten in CMA Test

BOLIVAR, MO – Jenell Wagner, new assistant professor of accounting at Southwest Baptist University, is an SBU graduate and a world-class scholar. According to SBU accounting department chair, Wayne Clark, Wagner earned a "top ten score" in the world for the fall 2008 Certified Management Accountant test group.

SBU CIS Department Announces Senior Projects; Partnerships Key Says Chair

BOLIVAR, MO – Two local non-profit organizations and a crime-fighting lab that supports the FBI are the recipients of help from the senior students in the Southwest Baptist University Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) Department in 2009-2010. The three recipients are the Bolivar office of the Ozark Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC), the Bolivar Area Ministerial Alliance (BAMA) working in cooperation with the Salvation Army, and the Heart of America Regional Computer Forensics (HARCFL) Lab in Kansas City.  These three organizations will each receive a critically important piece of custom designed and built software from the software engineering students in the SBU CIS Department by mid-April of 2010. 

SBU Faculty, Staff Blessed at Start of Academic Year

BOLIVAR, MO –Despite many challenges in the economy and in higher education, in general, Southwest Baptist University faculty and staff were greeted by good news during SBU President Pat Taylor’s State of the University address given during the Faculty-Staff workshop on August 20. The University ended the 2008-09 year in the black, hired several new faculty and staff, and has budgeted a 5% salary increase for the 2009-10 academic year.

SBU CIS Faculty and Students work with Supercomputer

BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University Computer and Information Science (CIS) faculty, Dr. Baochuan Lu and Dr. Tim DeClue, along with three CIS students, Ashley Jones (junior computer science major, Shawnee Mission Kansas), Enam Tamakloe (sophomore computer science major, Accra, Ghana), and Matt Copeland (junior computer science major, Springfield, MO) represented SBU at a computational thinking workshop recently held on the campus of the University of Arkansas.  Dr. Robert Panoff, director of the Shodor Educational Foundation, led the conference which focused on modeling, simulation, and computational thinking as a useful way to improve math and science education in the U.S. 


SBU Formal Convocation to Launch Academic Year

BOLIVAR, MO --Southwest Baptist University will begin its official academic year with formal convocation at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar main campus. Dr. Richard Brewer, professor of psychology and recipient of the 2009 Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award, will present the annual convocation address.
