SBU Professor to be Featured in Author Series

BOLIVAR, MO – SBU Senior Professor of Music Dr. William Brown will be the featured author of the University Libraries’ Fall 2009 Author Series Event held at the Hutchens Library at 7:00 p.m., October 30. The library is located in the Jester Learning and Performance Center on the SBU campus in Bolivar, Missouri.

SBU Hosting IBM-sponsored Battle of the Brains

BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University will host the 34th annual IBM-sponsored Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest, also known as The Battle of the Brains, on Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Wheeler Science Building on the Bolivar campus.

SBU Literary Series to Host Poet Ted Kooser

BOLIVAR, MO – The public is invited to attend a free poetry reading at Southwest Baptist University featuring two-time United States Poet Laureate, Ted Kooser. Kooser will present a reading of his poetry with a book signing following at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 24 in the Davis-Newport Theater. The theater is located in the Jester Learning and Performance Center at SBU’s Bolivar campus.


SBU CIS Faculty and Students work with Supercomputer

BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University Computer and Information Science (CIS) faculty, Dr. Baochuan Lu and Dr. Tim DeClue, along with three CIS students, Ashley Jones (junior computer science major, Shawnee Mission Kansas), Enam Tamakloe (sophomore computer science major, Accra, Ghana), and Matt Copeland (junior computer science major, Springfield, MO) represented SBU at a computational thinking workshop recently held on the campus of the University of Arkansas.  Dr. Robert Panoff, director of the Shodor Educational Foundation, led the conference which focused on modeling, simulation, and computational thinking as a useful way to improve math and science education in the U.S.
