BOLIVAR, MO --Memories of one’s family often bring joy and laughter to our hearts; however for others, memories of the past can bring feelings of pain and regret. At 7:00 P.M. on October 2, 3, and 4 the Southwest Baptist University Theatre Department will perform Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” in the Davis Newport Theatre on the main campus in Bolivar.
In this play, set in the mid 1930’s, Williams reflects on his home life in St. Louis, Missouri. Tom Wingfield narrates the story of his family as his mother, sister, and friend act as mere items within his memory. Through reliving his past, he comes to discover that you can choose to run away from your problems, but you will never escape them.
“The Glass Menagerie” is a Student Showcase directed by senior Amy Whitehead, a speech communication and theatre education major from Camdenton, Missouri. This production stars Senior Randall Stirewalt, a communication major from Eldoret, Kenya as Tom Wingfield; Senior Emily Jennings a theatre major from West Plains, Missouri, as Amanda Wingfield; Junior Carly Breaux, a speech communication and theatre education major from Beaumont, Texas, as Laura Wingfield; and Sophomore Stephen Jenkins, a communication major from Atlanta, Georgia, making his first appearance on the SBU stage as Jim O’Connor.
