BOLIVAR, MO – SBU’s Zeta Kappa Chapter of the National Delta Mu Delta (DMD) Honor Society inducted 14 new members in a ceremony held Monday, Nov. 9, 2009.  Presiding over the induction were the 2009-2010 chapter officers: President Rebekah Wright, Vice-President Kim Steinkruger, Secretary Kari Mooney, and Treasurer Laura Freeman.  Dr. Ronda Credille, Professor of Business Administration, is the chapter’s faculty advisor.

Dr. Kenneth Bandy, the new dean of the College of Business and Computer Science, was the guest speaker.  Referring to Luke 10: 25-37, Dr. Bandy applied Jesus’ response to the “expert in the law” and the Parable of the Good Samaritan to the motto of DMD: “Through Knowledge, Power.”  Dr. Bandy stated that to “love God with all your mind” means to give Him your intellect.  Additionally, referring to Psalm 19 and Ephesians 4, Dr. Bandy observed that to know God is to love His work—both in nature and in social interaction.  Dr. Bandy said that in this way, knowledge of God results in His power expressed through the believer in serving others.  Bandy emphasized that education is an important component of service because “the more skills we have, the more God can use us.”

Delta Mu Delta is the national honor society in business administration.  Each year, nearly 300,000 students receive either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business—but only about 5,000 are elected to membership in Delta Mu Delta.

DMD was founded in 1913 to promote, recognize and reward scholarship in business subjects.  Candidates for DMD must be in the top 20% of their junior, senior or master’s classes.  Since 1992, only business programs accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) can establish DMD chapters.
