BOLIVAR, MO -- The Southwest Baptist University Theatre Department will perform “The Burial at Thebes” in the Davis Newport Theatre on the Bolivar campus at 7:00 P.M. on November 13, 14, and 15.

According to the SBU Theatre Department, “The Burial at Thebes” is a new take on one of the most well-known plays in western drama, Sophocles’ Antigone. In “The Burial at Thebes,” Nobel-prize winning poet Seamus Heaney has updated this classic Greek tragedy to present a unique twist on a familiar story. This stylized production will depict the epic struggle of loyalty to the laws of the gods versus loyalty to the laws of man.

“The Burial at Thebes” will be directed by assistant professor of theatre Dr. Elissa Sartwell. Senior Kyle Struckhoff, a youth ministry major from Kell, Illinois, stars as Creon. Senior Jessica Griffin, a theatre major from Holt, Missouri, stars as Antigone. Sophomore Holly Stubbs, a theatre and intercultural studies major from Almaty, Kazakhstan, stars as Ismene. Freshman Tim Jackson, a theatre major from Atlanta, Georgia, makes his first appearance on the SBU stage as Haemon.

The large supporting cast is filled out by: Brea Carico, Kelly Crosby, Jessica Elder, Chris Maples, Jonathan Butcher, Sara Haas, Krista Juliff, Leeann Kline, Hannah McHugh, Bethany Parry, Kristy Schick, Hannah Utley, Amy Whitehead, Carly Breaux, Ethan Evans, Kimberly Glassco, Emily Jennings, Matthew Koch, McKenzie Moore, Alyssa Phinney, Josh Schnelle, Kyler Selleck, Ashley Thomas, and Chelsea Turner,
