BOLIVAR, MO – The Southwest Baptist University Jazz Ensemble will be featured in a concert on Tuesday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Meyer Recital Hall in the Geneva Casebolt College of Music on the Bolivar Campus. The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend. The ensemble will be under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Waters, SBU professor of music.

The 18-piece big-band ensemble is the champion of American jazz in the campus community, and will once again feature SBU student performers in a program which includes standards as well as contemporary jazz tunes.  Favorites from the past include “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Blue Bossa,” and “Black Orpheus.”  Fresh arrangements of “You Stepped Out of a Dream” as a Latin ballad, and “Down By the Riverside” as a rousing shuffle will round out the slate of traditional tunes on the program.

Contemporary tunes on the program include the funk ballad “Across the Channel,” the vivacious swing/samba chart “Riptide,” and a fun trombone section feature titled “Mr. Squishy.”

“If you like jazz in any of its various flavors—swing, Latin, funk, ballads—we like to think we offer a little something for everyone,” Waters stated.
