BOLIVAR, MO – The public is invited to attend a free concert featuring the Southwest Baptist University Chamber Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12. The concert will be presented in Meyer Recital Hall in the Geneva Casebolt Music Center on the Bolivar campus. Dr. Brian K. Hopwood, director of instrumental studies and assistant professor of music will conduct.

An eclectic mix of traditional and modern works is included in the concert program. Works from the Baroque era include Antonio Vivaldi’s Allegro in G and G. P. Telemann’s Concerto for Viola in G featuring violist Marie Phillips. The solemn and hymn-like Andante Festivo by Jean Sibelius will be included on the program along with Brahms’ spirited Hungarian Dance No. 4. Brook Green Suite, one of British composer Gustav Holst’s last works, was written for his students at the St. Paul’s Girls’ School in 1933 and named for the green on which the school stands. American composers’ works are also featured. The very dissonant and rhythmically shifting Chapter One (1989) by Carold Nuñez along with composer James Corigliano’s lyrical Reverie (1978) will round out the program.

For more information, please call Dr. Hopwood, department of music, at 417-328-1647 or email him at bhopwood@sbuniv.edu.
