BOLIVAR, MO --The public is invited to attend a free concert featuring the Southwest Baptist University Chamber Orchestra, Dr. Brian K. Hopwood, conductor, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 13. The concert will be presented in the Meyer Recital Hall, Casebolt Music Center on the SBU campus.
An eclectic mix of traditional and modern works is included in the concert program. Works from the Baroque era include G. P. Telemann’s “Allegro” from Sonata No. 1 and the Fugue in G Minor (“The Little”) by J. S. Bach. Violinist Jonathon Shih, violist Marie Phillips, and cellist Marita McCampbell along with Sara Miller on piano will be featured on Claude T. Smith’s simple, yet beautiful Prelude on an Early American Folk Hymn (My Shepherd Will Supply My Need). Toccata, often attributed to Girolamo Frescobaldi, was written by cellist Gaspar Cassadó in 1925 as a solo for cello and piano in the Baroque style and will be included on the program along with the lively, folk music setting of Shepherd’s Hey by Percy Grainger. Brahms’ spirited Hungarian Dance No. 6 along with British composer Peter Warlock’s string orchestra classic, Capriol Suite will round out the program.
