BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University announced that Jordan Hodges, a senior religion major from Odessa, Mo., will receive a $1,000 undergraduate scholarship award from the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. This scholarship is to be used for full-time undergraduate study during the 2008-2009 school year.

The Phi Eta Sigma Scholarship Committee said they “thoughtfully reviewed perhaps the largest number of applications ever in the history of the Society’s scholarship program.  A few short years ago (1970), nine $300 awards were granted annually.  This year the Society will grant $250,000 in endowed scholarships or awards to seventy outstanding members of Phi Eta Sigma for undergraduate or graduate study.”

The Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society was founded by three distinguished Phi Beta Kappa members, professors, and administrators at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923, to encourage and recognize high scholastic achievement among members of the freshman classes. Phi Eta Sigma is the third most senior member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
