New Faculty in Place at SBU

BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University recently welcomed the following new faculty:

 

Fall 2009 New Faculty (All began this fall unless otherwise noted.)

 

Dr. Ken Bandy, Professor of Business & Dean of the College of Business & Computer Science

Began July 20th.

Came from Fresno Pacific University, Fresno, CA, where he was the Director of Undergraduate Business Programs, Director of Leadership Program, and Professor.

Degrees:  B.A. in Speech Communication, Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio

            M.B.A., Texas A&M University – Commerce

            M.A. in Education, Dallas Theological Seminary

            M.A. in Organizational Communication, The University of Denver

            Ph.D. in Applied Technology, Training & Development, University of North

            Texas, Denton, TX

 

Dr. Clint Bass, Assistant Professor of Church History

Moved from SBU staff position Resident Director of Woody/Gott Hall to the full-time faculty position.  In addition, Dr. Bass had previously taught as an adjunct instructor in SBU’s Redford College of Theology and Ministry prior to joining the faculty.

            M.Div. in Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

            Th.M., Church History, Theology, Duke University, Durham, NC

            D.Phil. in Theology, University of Oxford, United Kingdom

 

Laurie Boen, Instructor of Education

Came to SBU from Branson Schools where she taught gifted students in K-6 grades.

Degrees:B.S. in Life Science, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Odessa, TX

            M.Ed. in Gifted Education, Drury University, Springfield, MO

            Currently, A.B.D., University of Arkansas

 

Mary Fraley, Instructor of Behavioral Sciences and Coordinator of Human Services and Resources at the Salem Campus

Came from Rolla, MO, where she worked as a Family Specialist with The Phelps County Community Partnership.  In addition, she was an adjunct instructor in psychology for SBU Salem campus and an adjunct for Drury University, Rolla campus.  She is a provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri.

            M.A. in Counseling, Webster University, St. Louis, MO

 

Kenette Harder, Assistant Professor of University Libraries, Bolivar campus and Acquisitions/Collection Development Librarian

Previously employed by William Jewell College, Liberty, MO, where she was Research Librarian and Archivist.

Degrees:B.A. in History and Psychology

            M.L.S. in Library Science, Texas Woman’s University, Denton, TX

Suzanne Powers, Instructor & Director of Career Services & External Studies

Joined SBU’s faculty in January 2009.

Previously taught vocal music in Dallas County R1 Schools, Buffalo, MO.

Degrees:B.S. in Education, Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield

            M.S. in Education, Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield

 

Tamara Samek, Instructor of Education

Previously taught third grade at the Bolivar Intermediate School and taught for Polk County Christian School in Bolivar.

Degrees:A.B. in Elementary Education, William Jewell College, Liberty, MO

            M.S. in Education, SBU

 

Dustin Shaffer, Assistant Professor of Theatre

Came from Nashville, TN, where he was an adjunct instructor at Belmont University and served as an advisor to the B.F.A. design students.  Also, he recently worked as production assistant for Actors Bridge Ensemble.

Degrees: B.G.S. in Theatre and Film, University of Kansas

            M.A. in Theatre, Missouri State University

            M.F.A. in Theatre, University of Florida

 

Ken Spurgeon, Instructor of Education

Previous employer was Duck Creek Technologies, Inc., Bolivar, where he was the Administrative Director/Senior Financial Analyst.  Prior to that, he was the Superintendent of Schools at Stockton R-1 Public Schools, Stockton, MO.

Degrees: B.S.E. in History, Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS

            M.S. in Secondary School Administration, Pittsburg State University

            Ed.S. in General School Administration, Pittsburg State University
